BENEFITS OF CLIMBING

The DOYLESTOWN ROCK GYM recognizes that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in rock climbing. Therefore, we spend a considerable amount of time making sure our facility can accommodate a wide range of ability levels whether it be for those that are new to climbing, seasoned climbers, families, kids, birthday party participants, or those who require a little extra support.

We are not, and do not claim to be, therapists. However, studies show that rock climbing can be of benefit to anyone in a variety of ways. Here are some of those benefits:

ADAPTIVE CLIMBING OPTIONS

Our goal is to empower every climber that visits the gym to reach their potential. We recognize that every climber is coming to us with a different ability level. We also recognize that some need to approach rock climbing differently. Therefore, we have a variety of climbing activities to accommodate everyone. Below is a small sampling of these activities:

  • Flying Squirrel.  Allows climber to be pulled into the air, experiencing a floating sensation.
  • Crawl Tubes.  Climber may enter and exit via climbing utilizing spacial awareness.
  • Mini-Zip.  Climber rides the zipline using a seated or harnessed apparatus, practicing upright balance.  The activity may be used in combination with ball toss activities.
  • Wall Climbing.  Various routes are set up for vertical movement, emphasizing balance and coordination.
  • Challenge Course.  Climber traverses a series of balance beams and cables above the ground.

** We possess specialty adaptive climbing equipment for individuals with limited mobility in extremities, as well as partial paralysis.

ADAPTIVE CLIMBING PROGRAMS

Adaptive rock climbing, sometimes called paraclimbing, is taking someone's abilities and providing the support as well as the access they need to participate in rock climbing.

We can serve a wide range of climbers with physical, developmental, and or emotional challenges. Our goal is make rock climbing accessible to anyone who wants to participate.

Yes, we have a variety of adaptive gear, including harnesses, to accommodate climbers ranging from a mild mobility challenge to those who use a wheelchair.

Most of the gym is ADA accessible. We do have an ADA compliant bathroom as well as ramps where needed. Some hallways and areas may not be accessible and the foam floor can be a challenge for wheelchairs. At this time, we do not have a dedicated handicap spot but we can insure close parking upon arrival.

Some folks may not require much assistance and come directly yo open gym. Other folks may require special harnesses and rope systems, so we offer private sessions. Please contact the gym so we can find the best fit.
