Rock Gym - Adaptive Climbing

The DOYLESTOWN ROCK GYM recognizes that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in rock climbing. Therefore, we spend a considerable amount of time making sure our facility can accommodate a wide range of ability levels whether it be for those that are new to climbing, seasoned climbers, families, kids, birthday party participants or those with special needs requiring adaptive climbing techniques.

We are not, and do not claim to be, therapists. However, studies show that rock climbing in general can be of benefit to anyone in a variety of ways. Here are some of those benefits:

  • Gross & Fine Motor Skills
  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Flexibility
  • Tactile Stimulation
  • Independent Thinking
  • Structured Communication
  • Problem Solving
  • Decision Making
  • Improves self-esteem
  • Enhances confidence
  • Builds Trust

Our goal is to empower every climber that visits the gym to reach their potential. Whether it be through staff engagement with climbers or conscience route setting, we put our climber’s needs first. Just as we recognize that every climber is coming to us with a different ability level, we also recognize that those with special needs may need to approach rock climbing differently. As such, we have developed a variety of climbing activities to accommodate everyone. Below is a small sampling of these activities:

  • Flying Squirrel – Allows climber to be pulled into the air experiencing a floating sensation.
  • Crawl Tubes – Climber may enter and exit via climbing utilizing spacial awareness.
  • Mini-Zip – Climber rides the zip on a seated or harnessed apparatus practicing upright balance. May be used in combination with ball toss activities.
  • Wall Climbing – A variety of routes are set up for vertical movement which emphasize balance and coordination.
  • Challenge Course – Climber traverses a series of balance beams and cables above the ground.

** We possess specialty adaptive climbing equipment for individuals with limited mobility in extremities, as well as partial paralysis.

It is our hope that you can find a program that is best suited to your needs and ability level.
